      <image:title>About - Irazema H. Vera (Puno, 1983)</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a sound artist and musicologist. I’m also a sound engineer and music producer. My artistic practice is deeply rooted in the relationships and connections between the territory and communities through memory, music and aurality; and how these face the environmental crisis and challenge hegemonic discourses. I develop soundscapes through recordings of the territory, testimonies and traditions, and the interaction between them. I then take an approach to cartographies that propose a contemplation of their bond as a call for climate justice. I currently actively participate in the collective Retablos por la Memoria that uses art as a collaborative tool to collect testimonies from victims of state violence and demands for justice and democracy in Peru; and in the collective Memoria y Voces de Puno which collaboratively and through testimonies, seeks to contribute to the reconstruction and socialisation of the struggle processes in the region since December 2022. I am also part of the Music and Gender Nucleus of the research group in musicology from the PUCP Institute of Ethnomusicology.

It is a spring, and also the region of the Andean heights. The beginning, the flowing fountain, the lightness of being close to heaven. In this piece, I explore the sounds of memory and connection: the ones with our origins, the ones with the world we live in, the ones related to our traumas, and the ones that call our spirit back to continue. ***Recordings made in Te Awanga, Lake Waikaremoana and Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau) in Aotearoa New Zealand; and in Puno, Caritamaya (Nación Aymara), Chua Chua (Nación Q’ero) and Lima in Peru; between November 2019 and February 2025.</image:caption>
